Classes at Psychomachia
Danse Perdue is an Arts Company that offers Mind/Body/Sense, Butoh, Yoga and Hidden Body Awareness Workshops.  These workshops are good for anyone who wants to have a deeper body practice that keeps them focused and centered.  The training helps people look beneath the surface and hones their mind/body awareness, sensitivity and connectedness. For advanced students and artists who want to perform, we push more rigorously to encourage them overcome their refusals and the junk built up into their Society Body, so they can really start to explore their Hidden Bodies, their Borderlands, their Limits.  This Ankoku Butoh, this Hidden Body Movement -- such training puts a special quality into your body that projects out from deep inside, so you can transform you and your audiences' sense of space and time.  This is not just important for actors and dancers, but for painters and musicians and sculptors and all artists whose work requires a heightened sensitivity to the insides and the outsides of the body, to the forms and sounds they and others make...  But you don't need to be an artist ... it's good for anyone interested in having a body practice that looks beneath the surface. Hijikata said everything gets better if you just add butoh quality to it, and we agree with this, and this is what we are trying to do for you.

Invitations to teach and perform are always welcome and collaborations are considered, although we are not always able.  If you want me to help organize or edit your piece or event, I'll do this for about 15 an hour.

Or you are welcome to come to train with us at our base in Seattle, Psychomachia Theater.

The work of Danse Perdue is rooted in ritual approaches to spiritual and physical struggle... Crisis.  The art of Danse Perdue (Lost Dance) concerns illumination, possession, and transmutation -- ceaseless birth and death of microorganisms writhing within surges of love and violence; mutations of intimacy; to know one another, to discover we are all inextricably linked in the unspeakable.  We are proponents of a revolution of everyday life -- by eschewing the familiar, the comfortable, and instead creating work out of the unknown.

Dance Perdue have performed and taught in many venues in the states and in Europe.  Contact: facebook.com/lostdance or grinderfamilyarchives@gmail.com or 206 383 4105

Teatro de la Psychomachia short bio

Danse Perdue are the founders of Psychomachia Theater (Teatro de la Psychomachia)  located at 1534 1st Ave S. in SODO Seattle, a performance and teaching space aimed at fostering transgressive and experimental work. To that end, Teatro de la Psychomachia hosts primarily musicians and performers whose work is rooted in crisis; ritual, esoteric, ceremonial, spiritual, physical struggle and crisis.

"... through dance we must depict the human posture in crisis..." Hijikata Tatsumi.

This is the essence of meaningful performance: to "be", rather than to "appear"; not to "act", to "become".

Psychomachia advocates the belief that art and life of substance can only begin to rise out of this diseased culture of unearned affirmation and anemic self-congratulation when performers commit to looking inside the darkest recesses of themselves, always seeking out the unknown, the unseen, the break in the self.
